Victory in Florida: Marriages now in Miami Dade; the rest of state at midnight
Miami, FL, January 5, 2015 — The National LGBTQ Task Force released the following statement:
“Same-sex marriages have already begun in Miami-Dade. Millions of Floridians are celebrating this hard fought victory, especially the couples who have had to wait such a long time to get married. This ruling also communicates to the world that Florida is an inclusive place to live, work, visit and do business. We want to thank the SAVE, ACLU of Florida, Equality Florida and NCLR for all the great work and strategic thinking that made this win possible,” said Florida resident and activist Liebe Gadinsky, Board Member of the National LGBTQ Task Force.
One of the couples celebrating today is National LGBTQ Task Force board member David Price and his partner Juan Carlos Rodriguez whose legal action–along with five other couples–was pivotal in today’s outstanding outcome.
“This has been a very emotional and historic day when justice has finally come to all Florida families. It took way too long and we had to push way too hard to get this result. But now finally my partner and I can look forward to celebrating our upcoming marriage with our children and families,” Price said.
