Building power in Michigan

Task Force staff prepares for the Michigan Power Summit

Training grassroots activists is the heart and soul of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. That’s why we hold our signature three-day grassroots organizing trainings — Power Summits — around the country to train activists in their own states as part of an ongoing effort to build the political power of the LGBT movement at the state and local level.

Starting today, we’re holding a summit in Flint, Mich. to build the power of the LGBT community across the state through an intensive three-day training to teach the skills necessary for waging effective campaigns for social change while also building relationships between leaders of the LGBT community, communities of color, and other communities typically shut out of power. We are working with the Unity Michigan Coalition to support local activists to build support for human rights ordinances that protect LGBT people in communities across the state.

If you want to keep up with the action through Sunday, you can follow the Twitter hashtag #powersummit and check back on our blog for updates.
