Abortion Still Not Accessible for Millions, Forty-Two Years After Roe Decision

WASHINGTON, DC, January 22, 2015 — Today, on the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s historic Roe decision, the National LGBTQ Task Force released the following statement:

“Forty-two years after the court’s ruling, the Roe decision remains one of the most significant achievements in the fight for reproductive rights. Unfortunately, to this day, for millions of women—including LGBTQ women — access to safe, affordable, and life-saving abortions is still not available. In addition to significant economic barriers to reproductive health, there are those who are using religion to discriminate and reverse hard-fought basic rights. Now more than ever — in the aftermath of the Hobby Lobby decision — we must redouble our efforts to fight back attempts by opponents of equality working to roll back key advances to reproductive rights.”
