The 2000 national election study and gay and lesbian rights: Support for equality grows

A 2000 national survey found that:

  • United States residents increasingly support adoption by lesbians and gay men;
  • A strong majority support lesbians and gay men serving in the military;
  • Strong majorities back sexual orientation-inclusive nondiscrimination laws.

The data in this report indicate positive development in the American public’s attitudes toward lesbians and gay men.
