Barbara Satin

Barbara Satin is a transgender activist who’s been deeply involved with LGBTQ issues, locally and nationally, particularly around the issues of aging and faith. She currently serves as Director of Faith Outreach for The National LGBTQ Task Force where her responsibilities include working for the full inclusion of trans persons in communities of faith.

Barbara has also been heavily involved in the development of Spirit on Lake, a LGBTQ supportive senior housing project in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The housing project – a 46-unit affordable rental facility – opened in September 2013. President Barack Obama appointed her to his Faith-based and Neighborhood Initiative Advisory Council and her work on LGBTQ aging issues often brings her to Washington to participate or testify on that important topic.

Barbara has sat on boards of a number of non-profits that serve LGBTQ people in the areas of philanthropy, aging issues, advocacy, training of senior care providers and HIV/AIDS services. As an active member of the United Church of Christ, she was the first transgender person to serve on the denomination’s Executive Council and was involved in the UCC’s 2003 decision to affirm inclusion of transgender people in the full life and ministry of the United Church of Christ.
