Board Bio: Rose Hayes

Rose Hayes is an Engineering Director in the Research Organization at Google. Her most recent efforts have been focused on the issues at the intersection of privacy and machine intelligence. Prior efforts include leading development of Google’s Knowledge Graph, a knowledge base of several billion facts.

Rose joined the board of the Transgender Law Center in April of 2013 and has served on the Finance and Governance Committees. She recently resumed chairing the Governance Committee. She co-led a workshop on on board services at Creating Change 2014, “Board Service Skills for the Rest of Us.”

Rose served on two for-profit boards in the tech sector, giving her experience with board service for both successful and unsuccessful companies (del.icio.us and Lamplighter Studios). Her previous for profit experience includes fifteen years on Wall Street, much of that on the trading floor on both the technology and business side.

Rose came out as queer in the early 1980s.  More recently, she began to understand that she was trans and eventually had come out again.  Rose is Jewish and is an active member of Sha’ar Zahav, one of the oldest LGBTQ focused synagogues in the country.

As a board member, Rose’s strengths are in strategic planning, finance, and governance. Much of her aptitude for finance and governance comes from her experience working in a highly regulated environment as a registered securities principal on Wall Street. Her strategic planning experience comes from leadership roles in both tech and finance, with an emphasis on the use of data to guide strategic development.

Rose is a Task Force Leadership Council Member and attended Creating Change in Denver, 2015.
