The United States is faced with a "fiscal cliff" of automatic federal spending cuts and tax increases at the beginning of 2013 unless Congress and the president come to a bipartisan agreement on federal spending and taxes before the end of December 2012. The Task Force and Center for American Progress, with more than a dozen other groups, examine the impact these automatic cuts will have on LGBT people and their families in Caught in the Budget Battle: How the "Fiscal Showdown" Impacts Gay and Transgender Americans. Federally-funded programs to address housing and homelessness, health, employment, violence, and more are at risk in the budget negotiations. These programs and more provide vital services to LGBT people and their families across the country.
