Moof Mayeda
Deputy Director of the Academy for Leadership and Action

As a queer, Japanese American, gender nonconforming person, Moof is most at home doing intersectional work, whether it’s mobilizing queer people to join a campaign against a racist ballot initiative or running a paid canvass of Latinas talking to Latinas about reproductive justice. As an organizer for the last 10 years, they have worked on a variety of electoral campaigns for social justice and LGBT liberation, most recently as the statewide field co-director on the successful same-sex marriage campaign in Maine. Moof loves campaigns because they create concrete change and offer opportunities to build power in a measurable way. They recently moved from Los Angeles, which was their home base for more than 14 years, and have embraced the nomadic life of a campaign junkie. No matter what city they’re in, if they’re not at the campaign office, they can be found feasting with foodie friends, lifting weights at the YMCA, or playing Settlers of Catan.
