About Creating Change:

Creating Change Volunteers

The National LGBTQ Task Force’s Creating Change is the nation’s foremost political, leadership, and skills-building convening for the LGBTQ movement. We are building a future where everyone is free to be themselves in every aspect of their lives. Today, despite all the progress we have made to end discrimination, millions of LGBTQ people face barriers in every aspect of their lives: in housing, employment, healthcare, retirement, and basic human rights. These barriers must go.

Through our Creating Change and other advocacy programs, the Task Force is training and mobilizing thousands of activists across the nation to deliver a world where you can be you. Every year, hundreds of volunteers help make Creating Change the powerful experience it is known to be. Volunteers are critical to the success – we can’t do it without you!

Volunteer Roles

Volunteers at Creating Change support key areas. Whether you are working at the CC Resource Center, serving as a room or safety monitor, and/or supporting accessibility and senior service efforts, there is a job for you!

Incentives

Volunteering at Creating Change is an opportunity to have a wonderful experience while giving back to the LGBTQ community. You might still be wondering, “What else?” Well – there are at least three more ways volunteering is worthwhile:

  • Leadership development – as a volunteer, you will have the chance to challenge yourself while building practical skills.
  • Community – you will have the opportunity to build community with thousands of Creating Change participants and hundreds of your fellow volunteers.
  • Waived registration – Creating Change volunteers receive complimentary registration.
  • VOLUNTEERS GET TO HAVE FUN!

Important Commitments

To receive registration waivers, all volunteers must commit to a minimum two (2) shifts at Creating Change, with each shift being four (4) hours – a minimum total of eight (8) hours. In addition, all volunteers must attend at least one Volunteer Orientation and Training prior to working your first shift at Creating Change. Orientation and training will take place both virtually and in person.

Radical Welcome/Community Agreements

As a Creating Change Volunteer, you understand that the Creating Change welcomes and affirms the many identities of our attendees, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, cultural background, language and country of origin, faith traditions, sex/gender, gender identities such as transgender and gender non-conforming, sexual orientations such as lesbian, gay, heterosexual, bisexual, queer, Two-Spirit, intersex, same-gender loving, asexual, polyamorous, pansexual and omnisexual. You are ready, willing, and able to treat each person with whom you interact with civility, courtesy, and kindness. You will respect each person’s race, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, faith tradition, physical appearance, physical and mental ability, language, and communications style; and you will do your best to help and assist them. Thank you for upholding these community agreements and making Creating Change a place of radical welcome for all.
