Video of unarmed victim Paul O’Neal “damning indictment” of Chicago Police

Washington, DC, August 5, 2016–The National LGBTQ Task Force is calling for a full investigation of the Chicago Police’s fatal shooting of Paul O’Neal, an 18-year-old unarmed Black man, that took place on July 28. In a video released by the police today, the victim is shown according to CNN in a “limp” condition as he is handcuffed; shots are heard.

“Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the O’Neal family at this heartbreaking time. This video, the general black lives don’t matter demeanor, and the aggressive approach of the police towards Paul O’Neal is yet another example of why we need radical reform of policing in our nation. The video is tragically one of many that are a damning indictment of the police’s shoot-to-kill black people culture. How many more families will have to suffer until real change happens?” said Russell Roybal, Deputy Executive Director, National LGBTQ Task Force.
