Uganda’s New Draconian Anti-LGBT Legislation

Today the Ugandan Parliament passed a bill that would punish lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people with life in prison.

Statement from Task Force Executive Director Rea Carey:

“Imagine being put in jail for life for who you are and who you love. That’s the bill that was passed by the Ugandan Parliament today. It’s draconian; It’s pure unadulterated discrimination; it’s outrageous. It’s against the fundamental human rights we as Americans cherish. We urge President Museveni to stand against discrimination of all forms and to refuse to sign the legislation. We also urge our government to do everything within its power to prevent this bill from becoming law.”
