Statement on today’s decisions by courts to strike down voter ID laws

WASHINGTON, DC, Oct. 10, 2014 — Today the US Supreme Court and the US District Court struck down voter ID laws in Wisconsin and Texas respectively.

“This is a good day for democracy. Of course, the opposite is also true: this is a bad day for those who wish to deprive people of their most fundamental right — the right to vote. Now we must redouble our efforts to restore the Voting Rights Act and to ensure that every LGBTQ voter gets the opportunity to vote at the upcoming election.”

— Rev. Darlene Nipper, Deputy Executive Director, National LGBTQ Task Force
