Task Force joins conversation about African-American LGBT people

Task Force Deputy Executive Director Darlene Nipper spoke today on a panel as part of the “Invisible Lives: Conversations on the experiences, struggles, and triumphs of Black Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Americans,” a series of interactive conversations on the intersections of racial identity, sexual orientation and gender identity. The series was presented by the Congressional Black Associates and the LGBT Congressional Staff Association, in conjunction with the FIRE Initiative of the Center for American Progress and took place at the U.S. Capitol.

The forum featured three “fish-bowl”-style conversations between leaders in the Black and LGBT communities. Nipper spoke at the panel “Beyond Marriage,” which discussed the laws and policies, beyond relationship recognition, that hinder black LGBT people’s ability to fully participate in our society.
