Task Force in Bowling Green

The Task Force participated in the June 25 Trans Day of Action in New York City, where Task Force staff and volunteers marched in solidarity with organizers and community members for transgender justice and equality. After the march, the Task Force spoke with attendees about Volunteer for Equality, a program where New Yorkers phone bank to voters in Bowling Green, Ohio, which is facing a repeal of its LGBT nondiscrimination ordinance this year.

The Task Force has been working hard alongside ally organization, One Bowling Green, to protect the city’s nondiscrimination ordinance.

In May, we sent organizers to work on full time on the ground to train local leaders in skills like grassroots fundraising and volunteer recruitment. With our help, the campaign was able to raise its seed money and hire a campaign manager.

In addition, we issued a fundraising challenge to the Bowling Green community. The Task Force pledged to match everything they raised up to $10,000 in the first 6 weeks following our training. The campaign surpassed the requirements for the match and in plenty of time.

We also brought three leaders from Bowling Green to the California Power Summit in June, trained their leaders on how to talk with voters face to face, and sent an organizer and two summer fellows this week to help launch the campaign’s first door-t0-door canvasses!
