Task Force deeply saddened by the death of social justice champion Lautenberg
The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force is mourning the death of veteran New Jersey Senator Frank Lautenberg who passed away today.
Task Force Executive Director Rea Carey states:
Frank Lautenberg was a great champion of equality and justice for the LGBT community and for all. He will be remembered for supporting important anti-bullying protections in legislation, notably he was lead sponsor of the Tyler Clementi Higher Education Anti-Discrimination Act. He embraced LGBT employment protections on the federal level and the freedom to marry. And, he was a champion of many social justice issues such as immigration reform, women’s reproductive health, and economic safety net services. His voice will be greatly missed on the Senate floor.
