Task Force commends California governor for signing Dream Act

The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, a longtime advocate for fair and humane comprehensive immigration reform, commends California Gov. Jerry Brown for signing the California Dream Act, which provides undocumented immigrants access to state aid at public universities and colleges.

Rea Carey, executive director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, says:

California is building brighter and more secure futures for our young people. Having access to education is key to this dream. Education unlocks ideas, unleashes creativity, and grows our skills and talents. This not only benefits individual students, it makes our local communities, our states and our country stronger and more competitive. Gov. Jerry Brown was right when he said the Dream Act “benefits us all by giving top students a chance to improve their lives and the lives of all of us.” We couldn’t agree more.
