Task Force at anti-violence vigil following Arizona rampage

At the Task Force, we continue to offer our thoughts and prayers to those involved in the shooting rampage in Arizona over the weekend. On Saturday, following the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) and several others at an event in Tucson, Task Force Excutive Director Rea Carey said:

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and all the victims of today’s horrific attack. We offer our deepest condolences to those who lost loved ones in this devastating shooting, and hope for full recoveries for those injured. This is a tragic day for our country.

On Sunday night, Task Force board member Hans Johnson organized and spoke at a vigil in Washington, D.C.’s Dupont Circle neighborhood for the victims of the shooting, which included Judge John  Roll who was killed in the attack. In an article about the vigil, Johnson said:

Whenever you have a public servant hurt or attacked or killed in the case of Judge John Roll, it can send a message of intimidation towards people participating in American public life, We are here … to say that we are primarily in sorrow and solidarity with the people hurt, but also in support of the values of public service, diversity and civil rights that should not be trampled by this act of violence.
