Take Action: Maryland legislators need to hear from you

Last Thursday the Maryland Senate made history when it passed legislation that would extend the freedom to marry to same-sex couples. Now the struggle for the freedom to marry moves to the Maryland House of Delegates. Unfortunately, the vitriolic voices of our opposition are louder than ever before, and they threaten to halt the remarkable momentum we gained from Thursday’s historic Senate vote. Maryland delegates are listening to voices on both sides of this issue, but the most important and influential voice of today is – yours.

Anti-LGBT Delegate Don Dwyer (R-Anne Arundel) has sent out communications to churches and synagogues across the state from an organization designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Other delegates are reducing “legislation about fundamental human rights…to petty horse trading,” as the Baltimore Sun editorialized. Contact your delegates today—even if you think they are supportive or a sponsor of the bill–so they know that marriage discrimination must end.

Can you make a phone call right now to your state delegate to ensure they hear about why marriage equality is important to you and your family? Call: 1-800-492-7122. Click here to find out who your delegate is.

The time is now to act, speak out and add to the momentum to beat back the misinformation our anti-gay opponents are lobbing at us and our allies.

One of our opponents, State Senator Simonaire, said that the passage of marriage equality will be remembered as the day “traditional marriage died” as a result of a “homosexual world view.” That’s what we’re up against.

Please make the call now. It’s critical that you call your legislator’s office and voice your full support for HB175 – Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act today!
