Storycorps Friday: Telling our stories to change hearts and minds

betsy_smith_200x200One of the best tools we have to create change are the stories we tell about our lives. That’s why we’re bringing you some of the Storycorps interviews we collected from leaders in the LGBT movement.

This month we’d like you to meet a longtime friend of the Task Force, Betsy Smith. Betsy has been at the forefront of the LGBT movement in Maine, leading our community to many victories during her tenure as executive director of Equality Maine, including winning marriage equality last year.

Listen as Betsy talks with Sarah Reece, director of the Task Force’s Academy for Leadership and Action, about the amazing victories on Election Day in 2012 and the work that Equality Maine and the Task Force has done together for nearly a decade that made this victory possible.

We love being able to share these interviews and give you a chance to hear about all of the work these visionaries have done to get us where we are today. They built, and in many cases are still building, the foundation. Now it’s up to us to keep pushing forward.
