Statement on Andrew Puzder nomination withdrawal

Washington, DC, February 15, 2017 — The National LGBTQ Task Force is making the following statement on the withdrawal of Andrew Puzder’s nomination for the cabinet position of Labor Secretary.

“Rarely do you get the chance in politics to correct a terrible mistake. With the withdrawal of Andrew Puzder, the president has such an opportunity. He should nominate a person for Labor Secretary who — unlike Puzder — is in favor of basic rights essential to the LGBTQ community such as: the minimum wage and paid leave; respect for employees; union rights; non-discrimination protections; and someone who actually has government experience enforcing labor laws,” said Rea Carey, Executive Director, National LGBTQ Task Force.
