Saturday morning: The canvass
By Jenna Lowenstein, Interactive Media Coordinator, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force
Saturday morning at the California Power Summit is all about the canvass. Folks are heading out into East Los Angeles now on two different canvasses, aiming to talk to unsupportive and undecided voters about why marriage is important to LGBT people.
Before the canvass volunteers headed out, however, trainers from Equality California, Vote for Equality, and the Task Force led canvass trainings to get everyone ready for what they might encounter.
Participants role-played conversations with voters and touched on issues such as how to deal with homophobia and transphobia at the door.
We’ll be back a bit later today to let you know how the canvass went!
- Getting pumped.
- EQCA’s Milton Davis and the Task Force’s Dan Hawes and Moof Mayeda (not pictured) explained how canvassing now will impact Election Day later.
- Power Summit participants learn about canvassing in California.
- Power Summit participants demonstrate a Spanish-language conversation about marriage.
