Record-breaking Miami Recognition Dinner



In a packed ballroom at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach, hundreds of LGBT people and allies participated in the 14th annual Miami Recognition Dinner breaking last year’s record in revenue, which will benefit the local organizations that continue to do critical work in advancement of LGBT rights.

The 2010 National Leadership Award was presented to Alan Cumming, a Tony award-winning openly bisexual actor renowned for his civil rights activism and advocacy for the HIV/AIDS community.

Cindy Brown, operations director for Miami Beach Gay Pride, who has served as a volunteer, board member and consultant for many Miami-Dade organizations, including SAVE Dade, Aqua Foundation for Women, Care Resource and the Miami Light Project, received the Eddy McIntyre Community Service Award.

Miami-Dade County Commissioner Katy Sorenson, who championed the addition of “sexual orientation” to the county’s nondiscrimination laws and successfully defended these equal treatment provisions against attempts at repeal, speaks after receiving the 2010 Humanitarian Award.
