STATEMENT FROM THE NATIONAL LGBTQ TASK FORCE ON THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION’S PROPOSAL TO GUT DISPARATE IMPACT PROTECTIONS IN HOUSING

(Washington, DC, August 16, 2019) –  In response to the Trump administration’s new proposed housing rules, Meghan Maury, Policy Director for the National LGBTQ Task Force, stated:

“That the administration intends to gut disparate impact protections under the Fair Housing Act is yet another instance of Trump’s policies undermining LGBTQ and other marginalized communities as we seek to meet our most fundamental needs. The National LGBTQ Task Force believes that all people should have the right to safe, affordable housing – including LGBTQ people, people of color, people with disabilities, and other communities that are more likely to face discrimination when trying to access housing, credit, health care, education, and employment. The disparate impact rules have been among the most effective tools for addressing housing discrimination practices; we join our colleagues in the progressive movement in fighting against this and every attack on our civil and human rights.”
