As we fight to ensure all anti-trans language is removed from the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), we advise all constituents to use the following language when calling their local senators to vote NO.
Dear [Insert Your Senators Name],
There’s an opportunity to remove all hateful and discriminatory language in the National Defense Authorization Act. You must seize this opportunity to support Senator Baldwin amendment to remove all anti-LGBTQ language in Sec. 708.
The NDAA bill also attacks diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programming in Sec. 1115. Senate leadership must remove this blatant attack on inclusive practices, as any drive to silence and erase the diverse history of America and its citizens is dangerously anti-queer.
These proposed provisions have real life consequences – we are already seeing accounts of military families with trans youth considering retirement or simply leaving their service. The Senate must remove the hateful language, and if they fail – President Biden must keep his promise and veto any bill with such provisions.
Lawmakers must champion LGBTQ rights, hold firm to their commitments, and work towards excising harmful provisions that detract from the core mission of national defense. We strongly implore that you do the following:
- Support Senator Baldwin’s amendment which removes all anti-LGBTQ provisions in Sec. 708
- Demand the removal of Sec. 1115 which aims to reduce any diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives/programs, and requires a hiring freeze.
- Vote NO on H.R.5009 if any anti-LGBTQ or anti-DEI sections remain present in the NDAA.
Thank you for Holding the Line for LGBTQ Lives!!!
