NATIONAL LGBTQ TASK FORCE WELCOMES PRESIDENT’S NOMINATION OF LORETTA LYNCH TO HEAD JUSTICE DEPARTMENT

WASHINGTON, DC, November 10, 2014 —On Saturday, President Obama nominated Loretta Lynch, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, to be the next U.S. Attorney General.

“We welcome Loretta Lynch’s nomination to be the next attorney general. Her dedication to civil rights, including her work prosecuting members of the New York Police Department for police brutality against Haitian immigrant Abner Louima, makes her an excellent candidate for the job. As a federal prosecutor, Lynch has repeatedly demonstrated she is unafraid and highly capable of taking on tough, high-profile opponents of equality in order to ensure fair treatment under the law for all.

“If confirmed, Ms. Lynch would become our nation’s first African-American woman to lead the Department of Justice. We look forward to working with Ms. Lynch as we continue to work to ensure full freedom, justice and equality for all LGBTQ people.”
