National LGBTQ Task Force protests CDC: The agency should promote Science not Silence

Washington, DC, December 19, 2017: The National LGBTQ Task Force and allies, on December 20, are protesting the CDC’s actions to eliminate seven words from budgetary language in front of the Health and Human Services Department.

According to The Washington Post, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) instructed staff to not to use the words transgender, fetus, science-based, evidence-based, diversity, vulnerable, or entitlement in budget documents — an act the National LGBTQ Task Force ripped President Donald Trump for taking, stating that he should be ashamed of himself.

On Wednesday, December 20, at 11 AM, the National LGBTQ Task Force and the National Partnership for Women & Families are partnering with LGBTQ, reproductive rights, and scientific advocates to demonstrate at the Department of Health and Human Services and to say women, the transgender community, scientific community, and progressive allies will stand united in a visual protest against the Centers for Disease Control’s action. Note that there will not be a speakers program – this demonstration a visual representation and activists will be taking to social media under the hashtags. #CDC7Words, and #ScienceNotSilence.

The event will take place on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 11am to 12 noon in front of Hubert H. Humphrey Building (Department of Health and Human Services), corner of 3rd St. and Independence Ave., SW.
