National LGBTQ Task Force Joins May Day Immigrant Rights Actions Taking Place All Across America
WASHINGTON, DC, May 1, 2017–Today, the National LGBTQ Task Force is joining lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) advocates in taking part in the #RiseUp actions being held all across the country in support of immigrants and refugees.
“This May Day, we #RiseUp across the nation to demonstrate the power, resilience and strength of immigrants. Since taking office, Trump policies and the enforcement of those policies by ICE and other agencies have been designed to dehumanize entire communities, divide families and declare war on people who are fleeing the most appalling conditions for a better life here in the United States. It’s time to #RiseUp for all immigrants and refugees; it’s time to rise-up for undocumented immigrants, more than a quarter of a million of whom are LGBTQ. It’s time for Trump and his friends in Congress to end the vile anti-immigrant rhetoric and to instead actually deliver comprehensive and fair immigration reform,” said Rea Carey, Executive Director, National LGBTQ Task Force.
