More Light Presbyterians Announce Alex McNeill as New Executive Director



AlexMcNeillMore Light Presbyterians (MLP) announced the appointment of Alex McNeill as their new executive director. McNeill is an openly transgender man, and a nationally known educator and advocate for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) Christians.

More Light Presbyterians is an organization dedicated to promoting acceptance and inclusion of LGBTQ people in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and wider society. McNeill is the first transgender person to lead a mainline Protestant faith-based organization.

Task Force’s Faith Work Director Rev. Dr. Rebecca Voelkel said of this announcement: “It is with great excitement that we receive this news from our partners and friends at More Light Presbyterians. Alex McNeill is a stunning human being with deep roots in the ecumenical and multifaith pro-LGBT movement. He comes most recently from being the Building an Inclusive Church trainer with the Task Force’s Institute for Welcoming Resources and from working at Equality Maryland. Alex also has a history of work on the campaign that achieved ordination equality in the Presbyterian Church (USA). He is a skilled organizer, person of deep faith and carries a vision for an intersectional movement for justice where ALL are loved, valued and honored.
