Minnesota becomes 12th marriage equality state as Gov. Dayton signs bill into law

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton has signed the state’s marriage equality bill into law making it the 12th state plus the District of Columbia to legalize marriage for same-sex couples. The law will take effect Aug. 1. This victory is the third in a string of new marriage equality laws in Rhode Island and Delaware. Minnesota was able to pivot from defeating an anti-marriage equality amendment last fall at the ballot box to moving marriage equality forward in the legislature.

The Task Force invested early in the efforts including serving on the board of Minnesotans United for All Families since its inception and organizing “Conversations with People You Know” trainings, in which people of faith have been trained and had conversations with other people of faith about the need for equality.
