Minneapolis vigil for Krissy Bates this Friday

Please join OutFront Minnesota along with the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and other community supporters for a vigil this Friday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. at the MCTC Library (General Mills Room) in Minneapolis, Minn., to honor and remember the life of Krissy Bates, a member of the community whose life was cut short by a terrible act of violence. Speakers include Barbara Satin, a Task Force staff member and transgender activist from Minneapolis.

After the short program at the library, participants will march to Krissy’s apartment building a few blocks away. Please bring candles, flowers and signs displaying positive messages of hope that our community can embrace to push back the darkness of fear and create a safer city.

Violence like this threatens all LGBTQ communities, but as national reports regarding anti-LGBTQ violence show, this is especially true of transgender women like Krissy. As long as members of our community are singled out for harassment and violence, our work is unfinished. Please join us in solidarity to raise one united voice to demand an end to this violence.

TYSN (Trans Youth Support Network) will open its space at 3405 Chicago Avenue South for a community event after the march. Visit its site for more information.
