Join us for an April 10 rally for immigration reform!

There are nearly 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States, including at least 267,000 who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.

Under our broken immigration system, they are forced to live in hiding, spending every day fearful that they will be discovered, sent into detention, and separated from their families, possibly forever.

A10timeisnowNo one should be forced to live this way…to live scared and in the shadows. We believe that everyone should be free to live their lives openly as who they are, including LGBT immigrants and others, but the current immigration system only serves to punish. America needs humane and comprehensive immigration reform now.

That’s why we ask you to join us on April 10 to say loud and clear that it’s time for Congress to fix our broken immigration system!

The Task Force, as a member of a broad coalition of progressive organizations working together as the Alliance for Citizenship, is planning a historic rally and lobby day next Wednesday in Washington, D.C.

This is our chance to let Congress know that all Americans demand common-sense immigration reform that leaves no one behind. Thousands are expected to descend upon the U.S. Capitol for this historic event, while at least 37 related events are planned across the country.

If you’re in D.C., please join us at 2:30 PM by the Merry-Go-Round near the Smithsonian Castle on the National Mall so that LGBT supporters can march together to the Rally for Citizenship, which will be held on the West Lawn of the Capitol Building starting at 3 p.m.

When: Wednesday, April 10
Meet-Up Time: 2:30 PM
Meet-Up Location: Merry-Go-Round near the Smithsonian Castle on the National Mall, close to Smithsonian Metro Stop on Blue & Orange Lines

If you’re not in D.C., click here to find events scheduled across the country, or sign up to host an event. Either way, we hope you’ll join us by coming out for citizenship.

Watch and share the new Center for American Progress video below, which includes an appearance by Jose Antonio Vargas, whom we recently honored at our National Conference on LGBT Equality: Creating Change for his leadership on immigration reform. Video:

The Task Force is a longtime advocate for humane and comprehensive immigration reform, and our executive director, Rea Carey, will be speaking at the rally in Washington, D.C. on April 10. She previously spoke of the importance of immigration reform in her annual State of the Movement address. She also recently penned an oped with Center for Community Change Executive Director Deepak Bhargava on why immigration reform must be at the forefront of the LGBT agenda.
