Friday evening: Lessons for organizers

By Jenna Lowenstein, Interactive Media Coordinator, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force

We’re big fans of the flip chart here at the Task Force, and when I found this wall with notes leftover from an earlier session, I thought they were well worth sharing.

Wise notes left behind from a training earlier today.

The flip chart pages read:

If you think you can do it for people, you’ve stopped understanding what it means to be an organizer.

Organizing is providing people with the opportunity to become aware of their own capabilities and potential.

An organizer is a leader who does not lead but gets behind the people and pushes.

After trainings like the ones today, the Power Summit participants should be well prepared to hit the streets of East Los Angeles tomorrow to talk marriage equality with undecided voters!
