Federal judge strikes down Utah’s same-sex marriage ban

UtahgraphicThe National Gay and Lesbian Task Force celebrates the ruling by a federal judge today that Utah’s Amendment 3 is unconstitutional. The ruling has not been stayed and couples are applying for marriage licenses now, making Utah the 18th state with the freedom to marry.

Statement by Rea Carey, Executive Director, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force:

“Today’s ruling is the first after the landmark Perry and Windsor Supreme Court decisions to strike down a state marriage ban under the federal constitution. This is a major step forward as we work towards full equality for LGBT people in all 50 states.”
