Task Force Celebrates Federal Courtâs Ruling Expediting Marriage Equality in Virginia
WASHINGTON, DC, Aug. 14, 2014 —The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force is celebrating the federal court of appeals’ decision clearing the way for marriage equality in Virginia by refusing to stay its decision that struck down the state’s marriage ban last month.
“Today we stand with Virginians in celebrating the federal appeals court’s decision allowing marriages to begin as soon as possible. We are ecstatic to learn that same-sex couples in committed relationships may be able to tie the knot in Virginia as early as next week should the U.S. Supreme Court refuse to intervene. This court ruling is a major step closer toward full equality in the Commonwealth of Virginia.”
