Don’t miss the intensive social media training at Creating Change 2012!

By GLAAD Director of Digital Initiatives Allison Palmer

Will you be attending Creating Change in Baltimore this January? If you are interested in using social media in your LGBT advocacy work, please join us for the third annual New Media Training Institute. NMTI is hosted by GLAAD and is one of the Creating Change day-long institutes taking place on Thursday, Jan. 26.

As our organizations are challenged to do more with less, utilizing social media in our advocacy and fundraising campaigns can be a relatively inexpensive way to increase our impact. Heather Mansfield is the ultimate expert on how to do just that. At last year’s Creating Change in Minneapolis, Heather gave the NMTI participants a full day of practical advice about incorporating the latest free and low-cost social media tools.

Since last year’s NMTI, Heather published a book, Social Media for Social Good: A How-To Guide for Nonprofits, and provided numerous trainings and webinars to nonprofits about social media. We are thrilled to have her back as the NMTI trainer at the upcoming Creating Change gathering. This year we saw numerous changes to Facebook and Twitter, the launch of Google+, and the expansion of mobile; NMTI will be the perfect time to address these changes and other shifts in the social media landscape.

As a regular reader of Heather’s e-newsletter and blog about social media for nonprofit organizations, I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to spend a day learning from her and hearing about what other organizations are doing with social media. We invite you — organizations of all sizes and advocates of all experience levels — to be part of the third annual NMTI.

The New Media Training Institute will be held Thursday, Jan. 26, during the Creating Change Conference at the Hilton Baltimore Hotel in Baltimore, Md., occurring Jan. 25-29, 2012. Register today for NMTI at Creating Change. After you register, RSVP to this event on Facebook. And be sure to tweet about the institute and conference using the Twitter hashtag #cc12.
