National LGBTQ Task Force condemns the shameful decision by SCOTUS to uphold Trump’s latest Muslim ban

“We will continue to resist all efforts to criminalize Muslim people and manipulate public perceptions about Islam,” — Reverend Naomi Washington-Leapheart, M.Div., faith work director for the National LGBTQ Task Force.

Washington, DC–On June 26, the Supreme Court of the United States of America (SCOTUS) ruled in favor of Donald Trump’s ban on immigrants from seven countries, almost all of which are predominantly Muslim, in Trump v. Hawaii. The National LGBTQ Task Force condemns the decision as an outright attack on freedom and liberty for Muslims. In addition, it jeopardizes the lives of LGBTQ people who may be fleeing hostile governments.

Kierra Johnson, deputy executive director at the Task Force, called the ruling “shameful” and added “make no mistake this ruling will be viewed by history as one of the court’s most heinous decisions, comparable to such decisions as Dred Scott and Bowers v. Hardwick.”

“We must not allow religion to be used as a vetting instrument,” stated Reverend Naomi Washington-Leapheart, M.Div., faith director at the Task Force. Washington-Leapheart continued, “We will resist all efforts to criminalize Muslim people and manipulate public perceptions about Islam.”

Kierra Johnson will be speaking at the No Muslim Ban Ever rally on the steps of the Supreme Court at noon today.
