Collaborating with other countries: Task Force staff meets with Mexican LGBT activists

Last week, Task Force staff met with delegates from a variety of LGBT organizations from around Mexico that were taking part in the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program to share ideas and insights into effective policy change and coalition building across progressive causes. The group is traveling to various U.S. cities to study LGBT rights, and spent the last week in Washington, DC meeting with organizations such as Immigration Equality, Pride at Work, and representatives from the government and private sectors to learn about the various strategies used to respond to the needs of the LGBT community.

Task Force Policy Advocate Patrick Paschall and Vaid Fellow Erin Fitzgerald talked about a variety of topics, including coalition building with other organizations, data from our National Transgender Discrimination Survey, and policy advocacy in a variety of areas, such as youth, health care, marriage, homelessness, and violence.
