Cecilia Muñoz tapped to become Domestic Policy Council director

The Task Force applauds the appointment of Cecilia Muñoz as director of the Domestic Policy Council. The White House made the announcement this week. She will coordinate the policy-making process and supervise the execution of domestic policy in the White House. Read more here.

Muñoz currently serves as deputy assistant to the president and director of Intergovernmental Affairs, where she oversees the Obama administration’s relationship with state and local governments. She also leads the administration’s efforts to fix the broken immigration system.

Her leadership and vision will directly impact the lives of millions of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their families. Cecilia has long worked on behalf of many of our country’s most marginalized people. She understands the wide breadth of challenges facing the diversity of people and families within the LGBT community.

In a statement, President Obama said of Muñoz:

Over the past three years, Cecilia has been a trusted advisor who has demonstrated sound judgment day in and day out. Cecilia has done an extraordinary job working on behalf of middle-class families, and I’m confident she’ll bring the same unwavering dedication to her new position.
