ACT NOW: Tell Congress to extend unemployment benefits!
We’re barely pulling out of the recession and the unemployment rate is still very high. Yet despite these hard times, some in Congress are trying to prevent an extension of unemployment insurance unless benefits are slashed or absurd barriers are added to the program.
This is brutally unfair. Millions of people are struggling to find employment every day. For anyone, being unemployed makes it hard to provide for themselves and their families. LGBT people are faced with not only this difficult job market, but the added burden of discrimination during their job search.
Tell Congress: Extend unemployment benefits. Click here to take action.
Congress has never cut back on federally funded unemployment insurance when unemployment was anywhere near this high for this long. They can’t now!
At the Task Force, we know that in order to improve the lives of LGBT people, we must start by improving our society as a whole. We must help one another in this difficult time.
Act now to extend unemployment benefits through 2012. Urge the Senate to pass clean legislation that doesn’t get in the way of people getting what they need to get by.
