Hey, Wake Up Rick Santorum — We're Everywhere!
Have Something to Say to Your Elected Officials? Here's How.

Are you tired of reading news stories about LGBT students being bullied (or worse)? Do you want to make sure ALL students can learn in a safe space? The Student Non-Discrimination Act (SNDA) will extend protections to LGBT youth and prohibit discrimination in public schools. As many as 9 out of 10 LGBT students have been bullied, according to the 2009 National School Climate Survey. But you can make a difference — send an e-mail to your senators now telling them to support SNDA today.

The city of Miami Beach, Florida proclaimed and celebrated January 11, 2012 as National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Day! There was a ceremony where the city recognized the Task Force for our work and contributions to the local LGBT community — including the over $1,200,000 raised from our Miami Recognition Dinner and Winter Party Festival. (Be sure to mark your calendars: this year's Winter Party Festival is February 29–March 5.)

Fire DeVille is a Change Agent, one of our monthly donors. She says that she's proud to support the Task Force and be a member, because "I love you guys!" Fire lives in Miami Beach and is a returning Winter Party Festival volunteer, where she gladly does any task the festival managers assign to her. (But we know her favorite job is standing in front of the clubs dancing and welcoming guests to the party.) We couldn't ask for more than someone who gives both her money and time to the Task Force. Thank you, Fire!

50 Years Ago January 1962
January was a big month for LGBT people to get off lists that called us sick or criminal. Starting in January 1962, Illinois became the first state to decriminalize homosexuality between consenting adults in private. Unfortunately it took another 30 plus years for the World Health Organization (WHO) to remove homosexuality from its list of diseases — but they did finally get around to doing it in January of 1993.

Alex Breitman

Alex has been an "avid reader" since he was young, and taught himself to read from watching "Wheel of Fortune" on TV every night! (At least that's the story according to his mom...) He loves to read many different kinds of books, so see what Alex is recommending this month.  More ›

Mike Lloyd
Accounting Manager
Mike listens to a lot of old Disco from the 70's and 80's, and he isn't ashamed to admit it. He considers that to be the "golden age" of Disco. Do you agree with him? See if some of your favorites from these decades made it into Mike's playlist.  More ›
