NY makes marriage equality history after years of advocacy!
Task Force makes $200,000 donation to Miami-Dade groups

The Department of Health and Human Services outlined an action plan to improve health data collection for LGBT people. This marks an important step forward in the effort to better address the health needs of our community.

Ruben Gonzales is VP for Resource Development at the National Council of La Raza, which will host a reception July 24 with the Gill Foundation to celebrate NCLR Board Member Catherine Pino's leadership in the LGBT and Latino communities. We salute Ruben and NCLR for bringing these communities together, and we thank Ruben and his fiancé, Joaquin Tamayo, for their generous support — congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

The Task Force's National Religious Leadership Roundtable (NRLR) celebrates the United Church of Christ's passage of a resolution endorsing full religious and civil marriage equality for same-sex couples. NRLR members noted that, "in making this bold statement for the full inclusion of all its members in the life and ministry of the church and in the fabric of society, the denomination continues its historic place of leadership for the cause of equality."

Our immigration system is broken and desperately needs to be fixed. One thing that will help is passage of CIRA, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2011. CIRA will allow all families, including LGBT ones, to stay together by incorporating the Uniting American Families Act. It also includes the DREAM Act, which creates a path to citizenship for young people. Please call your senators today at 202.224.3121 and ask them to support the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act. (If you're not sure who your senators are, you can find out here.)

Kyle Riggs
Holley Law Fellow

Kyle's been reading since he was quite young. (Young enough to carry his books in a Pillsbury Dough Boy canvas tote bag and not be embarrassed.) Aside from an unfortunate run in with French nihilists in high school, Kyle still loves reading a wide variety of books, including his most recent selection, Tina Fey's Bossypants. See what else is on his list.  More ›

K. Travis Ballie
Summer Fellow
Travis loves music for how it makes him feel and how it "powers" him up to do his work in this real world. And he has a very interesting way of listening to songs he thinks are good — something you might even do too. Want to find out what it is?  More ›
