The ruling in California's Proposition 8 case affirming the right to marry is a victory for loving, committed couples who want nothing more than the same rights and security as other families. Today, we celebrate the affirmation of this fundamental principle; tomorrow, we're back out there sharing our personal stories and having conversations about why this matters and who we are. As Associate Executive Director of the Reconciling Ministries Network, every day Rachel Harvey works for LGBT inclusion in the United Methodist Church (UMC). She's a great ally to our community and is even spending her 29th birthday—which is also National Coming Out Day—at the upcoming "Believe Out Loud Power Summit" in Orlando. At this conference, the 100 Reconciling United Methodists she's recruited will share stories and build relationships across theological differences. She'll be returning to Florida to continue to push for full LGBT inclusion at the UMC's global gathering in 2012.

Seven Years Ago: July 2003
The Task Force organized more than 1,500 volunteers for the 40th anniversary of the March on Washington. Then- Task Force Executive Director Matt Foreman addressed the marchers and said, "I was honored to walk with my African American brothers and sisters in this inclusive 40th anniversary of our nation's historic civil rights March on Washington and I am proud of the LGBT community who came together from across the country to support it."

Right now there are over 100 vacancies on the federal bench—and 30 are classified as emergency vacancies. Some conservative senators are deliberately using procedural delays to obstruct the appointment of highly qualified nominees. In some cases they've held up nominees for months, only to later confirm them by overwhelming majorities. This type of obstruction hinders the fair dispensation of justice. Help ensure that our pro-equality legislative victories will survive challenges by anti-LGBT litigation groups. Call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at 202.224.3121 and ask for your senators, or give the operator your state to be directed to the right office. For more information about judicial vacancies in your area, or other ways you can be involved, visit www.judicialnominations.org.

Bradley Jacklin
Program Manager

Brad describes his reading habits as slightly haphazard. He picks up a book, maybe reads half of it, moves to a different book, then eventually wanders back to the original. (It might not be the way you read books, but don't judge—this system works for him.) More ›

Becca Ahuja
Senior Field Organizer

Becca's not only a staunch believer in LGBT equality, but as one of our many hard-working organizers, she "walks the walk" every day! Her current playlist shows us her favorite music to listen to while she's out working on campaigns and building grassroots power. More ›
