Protecting LGBT rights in Bowling Green, Ohio
Building faith partnerships and alliances

The Department of Labor recently announced that it was expanding benefits afforded by the Family and Medical Leave Act to cover same-sex parents of sick or newborn children. Task Force Executive Director Rea Carey put the announcement in larger context. Read what Rea has to say.

Louise Chernin is executive director of the Greater Seattle Business Association, the largest LGBT business organization in the country and someone we were thrilled to honor with one of our Leadership Awards. She says "The Task Force is our community's voice. It's an organization with passion, drive and commitment that connects issues and real people...In this world of polarized interests, the Task Force gets it. Writing a check to the Task Force makes me smile." And Louise makes us smile too. We love Louise!

10 Years Ago: July 2000
The Task Force sent a letter to President Bill Clinton urging him to resign as the honorary president of the Boy Scouts of America — a position held by every president since William Henry Taft in 1910. The Task Force was among the growing chorus of community organizations, religious groups and elected officials demanding the president take a strong stand against discrimination.

The Senate could vote on the Department of Defense authorization bill as early as this month and we need senators to keep the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" repeal language in the bill. Please contact your senators to tell them to support repeal and follow the lead of Sen. Carl Levin on any harmful amendments. Call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at 202.224.3121 and ask for your senators, or give the operator your state to be directed to the right office. Your call can help change the lives of thousands of dedicated lesbian, gay and bisexual service members.

Barbara Satin
IWR & Faith Work Associate

Barbara says her current reading is a virtual "smorgasbord of literature." That's because she reads for many different reasons — to strengthen her faith, learn about her Scottish roots and even to remind herself that she is 75 years old. More ›

Darlene Nipper
Deputy Executive Director

Check out Darlene's "Girls I Like" playlist. "What can I say?" she says. "I just love listening to the voices of women from around the world. I wish I could list them all, but here are a few of my favorites." (You know you just have to find out who made her cut...) More ›
