Hundreds of thousands of same-sex and opposite-sex couples nationwide were negatively affected by anti-gay initiatives in 2004. For example:
In Ohio:
- 563,425 people were affected;
- More than 210,000 were in opposite-sex unmarried partnerships.
In Michigan:
- 498,104 people were affected;
- More than 186,000 were in opposite-sex unmarried partnerships.
