Task Force Mourns Loss, Celebrates Life of LGBTQ Community Leader Andrew Cray

WASHINGTON, DC, Sept. 3, 2014 — At the end of last week, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force learned about the passing of Andrew Cray, who was selected by the organization as a 2009 Holley Law Fellow and also served as a founding member of Trans Legal Advocates of Washington (TransLAW) — an organization that provides legal assistance to the transgender community in the DC area.

"Last week the LGBTQ Equality Movement lost one of the smartest, kindest, and most effective activists. The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force mourns the loss of Andrew Cray and celebrates his contributions to the movement. Andrew’s family and friends are all in our thoughts and prayers.

"For us at the Task Force, Andrew's passing is a deep loss. He was a friend, colleague, and true leader dedicated to creating the change we want to see in the world. As we celebrate his life, we must also remember to continue working toward achieving his dream of seeing a country in which LGBTQ people have access to the full range of health care they need.

"The only way Andrew would have us honor his memory is to keep working tirelessly to achieve that dream and make the world a better place."

— Patrick Paschall, Senior Policy Counsel, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force
