Task Force’s Russell Roybal to Receive LULAC’s LGBT Equality Award

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, July 10, 2014 — The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) will be honoring the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force’s Deputy Executive Director of External Relations Russell Roybal tonight at the inaugural LULAC LGBT Equality Reception in New York. LULAC selected Roybal for his investment in advancing the LGBT movement through philanthropy, fostering inclusive spaces for LGBT Latinos, and creating strategic partnerships between the LGBT and Latino movements.

"We are so proud and delighted that Russell is being honored by LULAC. Russell got his start in activism with the Task Force, and the rest as they say is history. We thank him for his extraordinary and multi-faceted leadership across our movement. Over the years, he has helped to create positive change and we look forward to his leadership, innovation and action in the future,” said Rea Carey, Executive Director, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force.

"I am truly humbled by LULAC’s recognition. For me, this award serves as a true testament to the amazing work LGBT and Latino organizations can accomplish when we work side-by-side to empower historically marginalized people. I am grateful to be able to work with LULAC, the oldest and largest Latino civil rights organization in the country, and partner with their dedicated staff who passionately promote civic engagement and work to advance basic rights for Latinos and LGBT people. The Task Force looks forward to the continued partnership with LULAC as we work to secure full equality for all,” Roybal said.
