Task Force co-sponsors President Obama’s June 8 Seniors Tele-Town Hall Meeting on the Affordable Care Act
Director of Communications
WASHINGTON, June 7 — The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and leading aging organizations are co-sponsoring a “tele-town hall meeting” on the Affordable Care Act with President Obama and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on Tuesday, June 8, at the Holiday Park Multipurpose Senior Center in Wheaton, Md. The Affordable Care Act will help close a gap in seniors' prescription drug coverage known as the donut hole.
Statement by Rea Carey, Executive Director
National Gay and Lesbian Task Force
“This is a critical benefit for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender older adults, who often fall into the donut hole in their health care needs. This is especially true for our seniors living with HIV. The Affordable Care Act provides, for the first time, coverage for HIV-specific medications. This is vital because the expense of these medications can force many seniors into difficult financial decisions affecting a prolonged quality of life. This is an important step toward addressing this problem, and we look forward to the continuing promise of the Affordable Care Act in ending such wrenching and life-threatening decisions.”
