WASHINGTON, Feb. 14 — "This historic decision means that the momentum for marriage equality, and equal protection for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people under the law, is unstoppable. This is just the latest in a long string of recent marriage equality victories across the country, that will ultimately lead to statewide bans on same-sex marriage falling like dominoes. The ruling is also yet another clear example of why judicial appointments and diversity on the bench really matters: Arenda Lauretta Wright Allen, the federal judge who just handed down the decision, was appointed by President Obama and confirmed by an almost unanimous vote in the US Senate. While Virginia same-sex couples will have to wait for more legal deliberations before marriages can begin, they can at least celebrate this timely Valentine's Day gift."
