Every year, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Leadership Awards (named Honoring Our Allies until 2001) pay tribute to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community leaders, allies and groups who fight for equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people through their leadership, advocacy and action. This year’s Los Angeles event will take place on Sunday, October 3 at the Silent Movie Theatre in Hollywood. The honorees are Greg Berlanti, Sylvia Guerrero and POWER UP.

There will be a special performance by award-winning saxophonist Dave Koz.

Task Force Executive Director Matt Foreman said, “Although our event takes place this year at the Silent Movie Theatre, our Leadership Award honorees are shining examples of people raising their voices for equality. Greg Berlanti, whose work eloquently illustrates the lives of LGBT people, POWER UP powerfully supporting lesbian visibility in entertainment and Sylvia Guerrero's heartfelt response in the wake of the tragic murder of her daughter, Gwen Araujo, make them incredible role models for our community and we are proud to honor them at this event.”

The mission of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force is to build the political power of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community from the ground up. We do this by training activists, organizing broad-based campaigns to defeat anti-LGBT referenda and advance pro-LGBT legislation, and by building the organizational capacity of our movement. Our Policy Institute, the movement’s premier think tank, provides research and policy analysis to support the struggle for complete equality and to counter right-wing lies. As part of a broader social justice movement, we work to create a nation that respects the diversity of human expression and identity and creates opportunity for all. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., we also have offices in New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis and Cambridge.
