Legislative Lawyering Project

Legislative Lawyering Project

The Task Force’s Legislative Lawyering Project assists activists, organizations, policymakers and political leaders with their efforts to pass pro-lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) measures and defeat anti-LGBT proposals. For the novice or the most experienced, the project is available to draft and analyze state and local legislation, municipal and company policies, legislative testimony, policy briefs, advisory memoranda, talking points, and opinion editorials; to advise on legislative strategy; and to assist with implementation and enforcement of LGBT-related laws and policies.

The project has particular expertise with legislation and policies relating to nondiscrimination, hate crimes, parenting, relationship recognition, safe schools, domestic violence, sodomy law repeal and transgender inclusion, but can provide assistance to activists and policymakers working to pass or defeat any LGBT-related legislation or policy. It also provides assistance via individual consultation and through organized trainings for groups.

To contact the project, e-mail Kara Suffredini, legislative lawyer, at ksuffredini@theTaskForce.org or call 202.639.6311.
